During the school year of 2015-16 a Swedish exchange student became part of our family. He lived in our home, learned our language and dialect and took part in our traditions. We did not only take a deeper understanding of Swedish culture from this, but we now have a Swedish extension of our family as well.

This June I finally had the chance to visit his home in Knivsta, a little town not too far from Stockholm. I got to meet the last two of his sisters and more of his friends, and I had the opportunity to celebrate Midsummer with them, the most important celebration in Sweden.

During my 10-day stay I also went to see quite a few towns in the area:

It was during this vacation that I decided to finally learn Swedish, something I had planned to do from the moment he arrived in our home. Hey då!
